Muriel Appelbaum started creating fine art when she was a girl, and continued throughout her career as a computer scientist. She attended art school after retiring. Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York awarded her a Masters Degree in Fine Art in 2009. Her MFA thesis exhibition, Community, comprised large, powerful and evocative figurative drawings done with pencil and eraser on frosted polyester sheets.
Muriel’s Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art is from San Jose State University, where her thesis exhibition consisted of small-format intaglio prints (etchings). Several of these prints are included in the Delight and Wonder portfolio, which conveys her relationship with nature in the wild hills of Northern California, where she lived for 15 years.
